Day Three: Shell Falls, Bighorn National Forest to Greybull, Wyoming to Tensleep Canyon
Sunday, June 8, 1997

That previous evening as we relaxed after dinner, we had a light rain. As dusk fell, we watched some deer watching us, then we bedded down in the dark shroud of tall pines by the creek. We're having a good time.

Morning Sun Filters Through the Pines

We awake to the clinking of Mr. Memphis and the Muleskinner trying to build a fire. They always get the early morning award for getting on the first pot of coffee and warming up the campsite with a roaring fire. Well the coffee is hot, but as far as the fire, its just smoke billowing outta wet logs.

Breakfast turns out to be an important test. Seems the Memphis-Slicker has bought a new dutch oven along and has a recipe (from a pitcher book) for what's called a "Mountain-Man Breakfast". Only thing is this is the first time Mr. Memphis has ever tried cooking it. Cooky frowns a little skeptical-like about the whole thing but decides to lend a helping hand to the this dutch-ovenfied-city-slicker.

Meanwhile, Bill finds that Coleman fuild cures a smoky fire real quick and we proceed to make coals for the dutch oven. Back at the picnic table there's a lot of chopping sounds. Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat, just like a kitchen at a Chinese restuarant as Cooky and company chop-up onions, potatos, and cheese for the Mountain Man breakfast.

Well, the Mountain Man Breakfast turned out just perfect. Either it was beginners luck or that dutch oven is almost idiot proof. The blueberry pie was good too.

We break camp and it time to load up with fresh water. We are full of excitement because we plan to leave this mountain paridise and head down into Greybull, then onward to Sheep Mountain. Kind of a shame to leave is place to head out into what we think will be more of a hot-desert clime.
